Are You Ready for Love?

Are you ready for love? Like many, you may be looking for a relationship. Perhaps you’ve tried online matches, blind dates, or joined the Sierra Club with no success. If you’ve been searching for years, you may need to start looking in another place – inside yourself. Unhealed inner wounds and unrealistic expectations can leave you unprepared when love appears.

Here’s the tip. Write a list of special qualities you bring to relationship and a list of people who love you. Allow any sad, mad, scared feelings. Breathe. When relieved and ready, write each quality and name on separate ‘post-it’ notes. Place those ‘post-its’ on your bathroom mirror in a circle so that whenever you see yourself, your reflected face is surrounded by reminders of your specialness and lovability. If all this proves too painful, consider counseling for deeper healing.

Next, list fears concerning relationships. Alongside each fear, write a possible solution. E.G., if you tend to give away your power, one solution is joining an assertiveness class. Another is asking potential partners up front for support in speaking up. If fears overwhelm, therapy can provide support and skills in learning to get your needs met in relationship.

Finally, look inside to see what is more important to you big bucks, big muscles, big breasts or soulful companionship. Once you’ve opened your heart to yourself, soothed your fears and widened your search parameters, you are ready. It’s time for a fine romance! ©
